Why I’m okay with two left feet

Getting started is never easy, especially for most of the 50+ superhero we work with, they have a lot going on in their life.

Today I want to share a story of two women who have made themselves a priority and took a dip in the Fountain Of Youth.

Mary & Karen haven’t exercised regularly in over two decades.  Twenty years, not a short period of time. But, two weeks ago they both got started here with their personalized program.

It’s easy to say they were lazy or didn’t care about themselves.  The facts demonstrate a different story.

Here are a few of the things they have had going on:

This is just the top half of the list that I put together during my conversations with them.

One thing that stood out above anything else is that both of these women are exceptional at taking care of everyone around them.  They literally sacrifice themselves to take care of others. It’s such a common thing.

We all know that the best way to take care of others is to take care of ourselves first. Yet, we know that it can be excruciatingly hard to do that.  In the same way that we all know the key weight loss is eating a little less and not eating when we’re not hungry, it can be really hard to do that. Common knowledge does not mean common practice!

It’s not like they didn’t want to take care of themselves, they did.  Getting started was the HARDEST part.  The few times they did get started, it didn’t work out as they hoped, they felt defeated again, making it even harder to get started next time.

When they walked into Core Principles about two weeks ago none of these feelings went away.

Here’s the thing we’re always going to feel this way, you’ll never have the answer, there is uncertainty at the outset of starting something new.

But, inside the fear and frustration of staying the same outweighs the discomfort of starting something new.

They made the smart choice this time by not trying to figure it all out on their own. We have all been exposed to so many of the “best” ways to workout from social media, tv doctors, magazine covers, diet culture, Aunt Sue. Who the heck knows what’s best?

Fortunately, we’ve worked with hundreds of humans like you, with real-life stuff going on and we’ve created a recipe for helping people get started in the most comfortable and welcoming way.

We started Mary and Karen the way we start everyone, in a way that’s just right for them. Instead of just throwing them into a training session and having them follow some random cookie-cutter workout, we spent plenty of time upfront talking about their previous experiences, what’s going on in their lives, getting clear about what they truly want to accomplish and why it’s actually important to them.

I’ll be back with you soon with an update on Mary & Karen, if you want to see them in action before then, come for a visit, you may just decide it’s time for you to get started also!!

I actually don’t like pumpkin spice anything,

Easy Meal Planning = Instacart?!

Eating at home more than going out to eat is one way to make progress on your health and nutrition because it puts you in full control. The trade off… eating at home requires having food on hand to prepare those meals, which requires time each week for planning and
