The Real Reason To Put Yourself First

If you’re a parent you know what it is like putting yourself second behind your family. Your kids are your world to you and there is nothing you wouldn’t do for them. From driving them around everywhere, making sure they have food to eat, and teaching them all of the wonderful life lessons that come with growing up.

It is easy to not take care of yourself when you are busy taking care of everyone else you love. I want you to stop and think for a second if you don’t take care of yourself do you believe that you are doing the best you can to take care of others?

Today I want to share with you the story of how one mom was able to carve out time and make herself a priority.

Meet Trish, a wife, a mom, and a charring Physical Therapist. Trish first joined Core Principles back in August as part of our 30 day VIP Experience. Trish had similar goals to most of our wonderful clients here at Core Principles. She wanted to lose some weight, get stronger, get her knee-feeing better, and improve her quality of life so she can continue to do the things she loves.

Trish knew she wanted to continue past the 30 days, there was just one thing that was holding her back. She knew that in a few weeks when school started her son was going to be playing football. She was hesitant that she would not be able to get to the gym because she had to go and pick her son up from football practice.

Making sure her son would have a ride home from practice was such a priority to Trish that it almost prevented her from continuing on her health and wellness journey.

Trish had two options when she was trying to figure out what to do after the 30 days. She could have stopped coming to the gym to make sure that she was always around to pick up her son. Or she could have continued and had her son take the bus, or find a different ride home.

Luckily Trish chose the later. I am sure it was not an easy decision for her as she may have felt that she was putting herself before her son. However, I truly believe and I think Trish does too that allowing herself time to make it to the gym and do some self-care will help her better provide more for her family. She is making an investment to herself but also to her family.
