How To Survive The Holiday Season

With Thanksgiving a little over a week away you might already be getting nervous about putting on a few extra lbs this holiday season. You’re already thinking about the pounds and pounds of food that will be on the Thanksgiving table, then less than a month later we have the winter holiday season with parties, going out, drinks and so much more than can hinder our weight loss, and even cause us to gain some weight.

As I am writing this today’s date is November 18th, 2019 which means there are 45 days until January 2nd, 2020.

To make things simple let’s say on average you eat 3 meals a day, which means you still have 135 meals until January 2nd, 2020. Now let’s all agree that after the 2nd the holiday season is over and things will go back to “normal eating”.

Now that we know how many meals we will have (assuming we eat 3x a day) let’s break down how many of those meals will truly be a challenge to make good decisions at.

To keep things simple I want to break down a few of those meals.

Let’s say that:

Thanksgiving Day= 1 meal

Winter Holidays= 3-5 meals (depending on what you celebrate)

New Years Eve/Day= 2 meals

Parties/Events= 5 meals

That adds up to a total of 11-13 meals, out of 135 meals. Are you really going to blame those few meals for your weight gain or lack of weight loss over the holiday season?

13 meals of out 135 is less than 10% of your meals. I think we can all agree that those few meals are not the issue. None of us would argue that eating “healthy” for 13 out of 135 meals will not do any good for you.

Now I do understand the holiday season is harder with things going on but if you are serious about getting results it is time to stop making excuses.

So what is the problem?

The problem is we take those few days and fall for the screw it effect. We let one holiday turn into a week of overeating, one party turn into 5 nights of drinking and so on. Those 13 or 26 meals turn into 50-75 meals, which is going to be an issue.

Remember to enjoy yourself for the holidays and when you are at parties but then get right back on track the next day.

If you need help this holiday season we will be running our first ever Holiday Head Start Makeover. It is a 4 week accelerated program that will help you actually lose weight this holiday season without starving yourself and eating wheatgrass.
